A Poem About Me!
Thank you Lis McDermott
Back in January, I left a comment on a Substack note posted by Lis McDermott. Lis had mentioned many names in a poem and my not-so-common name was not mentioned.
Quite by surprise, Lis wrote a poem about me!
Here it is.
Let me introduce to a business acquaintance, Roland.
We’re both here on Substack, together bound
writing in our very different styles; he with pen in hand
extolling the histories of villages and towns oft-renowned,
Waxing lyrical about the joys of writing with an ink pen,
Enjoying luxury and obviously with the patience of a saint,
A man of great restraint among thoroughly modern men,
who, at the thought of ditching their digital gadgets would faint
Travelling around this green and pleasant land
for sites of interest - hidden gems, Roland’s searches
lead to follies, towers, houses both small and grand;
pubs, workshops and many beautiful local churches
