Mrs M and I love to walk and take in the scenery. We decided on a trip to Seatown, a tiny hamlet that lies between Lyme Regis and West Bay in Dorset. Seatown is tiny but its population grows with the number of people who stay at the holiday park. Our visit today was to park here, using the car park you can see in the photo above, and walk the coastal path to West Bay and back. Parking cost £8 for the day.
It was my intention to record this walk for YouTube and if you scroll down you will be able to see the video.
This is a beautiful walk but be warned. The climbs are steep both up and down, although there is an alternative path you can take that cuts out the steepest of the climbs. We took the hardest route to West Bay but I admit the sight of the climb on the way back encouraged us to take the alternative route to Seatown, where our picnic awaited.
It took us around two hours to reach West Bay which is only around a distance of three miles but with those cliffs to climb and descend that was surprisingly good. Added to which were stops for photos and video footage.
The path has to be re-routed from time to time as the cliffs do suffer from collapse and walking close to the edge is a bad idea. The cliffs are made of rock and mud, making them very susceptible to collapse. It’s not advisable if you’re on the beach to sit at the foot of the cliffs. Collapses have often been caught on video and it would be deadly to be anywhere close to one.
The views are spectacular and thankfully on this very sunny day there was a strong breeze to keep us cool as we made our way to West Bay.
Here’s the video for your viewing pleasure. Enjoy!
We enjoyed the walk immensely, but for several days afterwards we found it difficult to get up after sitting down! As for climbing stairs - ouch!
