Somerset Lavender Farm

I have often driven through the Somerset village of Faulkland and passed the sign to the Lavender Farm. It’s about time I visited, so a little while ago, I checked the Somerset Lavender Farm website, and there, it advises the best time to visit to see the lavender in flower. On a hot and sunny August day, I made the short trip from Trowbridge to pay this long-overdue visit.

The lane to Somerset Lavender is narrow and is from the Trowbridge direction, a tight hairpin entryway. Fortunately, it’s a short run to the gate and car park. There isn’t an entry fee: donation boxes are placed around the place, and the website suggests a donation of  “around five pounds per person”.

There is a lovely flower garden next to the car park; I have added some of the photos taken below. I am not a plant expert, even though I enjoy gardening. Remembering the names of plants is a tall order for me! Please enjoy the photos, and if you would like to name the flowers, please leave a comment. Click on a photo to enlarge it.

The lavender field was full of bees working hard to gather the nectar. There are also other flowers and even some vegetables mixed in at the far end of the field. The farm also produces sunflowers, and these can be self-picked for one pound per stem.

I didn’t try out the cafe, but it looked to be popular and had a good selection of items on the menu. Plants are for sale by the car park, and there is a gift shop from which you can also purchase online.

I certainly enjoyed my visit to Somerset Lavender, and if you’re ever in the area, please do pay them a visit. There is also a five-minute video of my visit so you can enjoy even more of the farm.
