To be able to create the stories I write and videos I make, I am often in areas where others are around. It’s a strange phenomenon that as soon as I wish to take a photo or record a video, something will happen.
Quite often, out of nowhere, a person or vehicle will appear exactly in the frame of my shot. Let me give you some examples.
I am standing in front of a sign explaining the history of a tree, and I intend to take a few seconds of video footage. My video camera is pointing at the sign when a mother and her two children immediately stand between me and the sign.
Here’s another instance: I wish to capture some video footage of a village street, when, out of the pub, comes a man with his mobile phone and decides to pace up and down the road speaking very loudly into it. And for a very long time! There is no other soul in the street except him.
Imagine this. I stand on the edge of a footpath with a busy main road in front of me. Behind me is easily ten feet of space on which to walk. My video camera is now pointing at the scene when …. two individuals decide to walk in front of me, at risk from the traffic and then get back on the footpath! You couldn’t make it up.
I could go on and on and on …… Don’t worry - I won’t. 😀
The same principle holds true with podcasts and voiceovers. The moment I wish to record, the Royal Air Force will fly a fighter jet over the house—an infrequent event until I press record. If not a plane, it will be a barking dog, screaming child or power tool. Why me?
I have told other content creators about this phenomenon. Apparently, it’s not rare. Many of them have similar issues with such incursions. I suppose I can take comfort in the fact that it’s not JUST ME!
